September Meeting : Wednesday 17 September 2025
Dear Glendowie College community,
Firstly, I would like to thank those within the college community that voted for the next GDC Board. We received some wonderful nominations, and I am thrilled to welcome Phoebe Dobson, Allyn Glaysher, Aaron Wright and Patrick Poon as Parent Representatives, our new Student Representative Pita Alovili, and Melanie Van Ansem our new Staff Representative. They joined me and Gordon Robertson (Principal). Thank you also to those who stood and were not successful this time. We appreciate your commitment to GDC.
Our first Board meeting was held on 17 September, only 24 hours following the announcement. Starting with a pōwhiri for the new Board members and a farewell to those who are not continuing (Jo-Anne Knight, Elizabeth Studholme, Bain Hollister, Murray Stevenson and Steve Sutherland), we thank you for your energy, guidance and laughter. We also farewelled Braxton Savage as Student Representative. We quickly settled into our first meeting where Mr Robertson provided some clarity on the Board’s role and responsibilities.
We look forward to engaging with the school community over the next three years. If you would like to contact us, our email is GDCBoard@gdc.school.nz
Recently Mr Robertson circulated a questionnaire to gain insight for the strategic direction of GDC, we thank those parents who provided thoughtful responses.
Well done to Tangaroa for winning the coveted Haka and Waiata competition. There were fierce competition and amazing performances. It is great to see how all students are involved and take pride in their house.
Term 3 draws to an early close at 2pm today. We would like to acknowledge the students and teachers for their continued hard work during the term, ending in mock exams for our senior students.
Finally, we would like to thank those parents who have paid their child’s donation, and a reminder to those who are yet to pay. This is a very much needed donation (due to our equity index), so we can continue to provide the opportunities you expect from GDC. Payment may be made via the portal or email student.accounts@gdc.school.nz for assistance.
The Board wishes you all a great break with family. See you in Term 4.
Ngā mihi nui,
Belinda SutherlandPresiding Member
